Fans were left in stitches after what Luke Littler did before the final of Night 11 of the BetMGM Premier League Darts.

On Thursday Littler reached the final for a third consecutive week, but he couldn't make it three wins on the bounce as he fell to a 6-3 defeat to Michael van Gerwen in Birmingham.

The teenage sensation edged out Rob Cross with a last-leg decider in the quarter-final, before he beat world champion Luke Humphries 6-5, landing five maximums with a match average of just over 107.

Littler stuttered in the final though, allowing Van Gerwen to break twice and win 6-3 to boost his hopes of reaching the Play-Offs.

Despite defeat in the final, Littler remains top of the table with 26 points after earning his first two nightly wins of the season in Manchester and Belfast.

Humphries in two points behind him in second position, while Van Gerwen is third on 22 points after claiming his fourth nightly win of 2024.

While Littler is known for his calm and collected attitude to the big occasions, what he did before taking to the oche in the final left fans in stitches.

As Night 11 neared its conclusion, the full-time whistle blew at Anfield as Liverpool fell to a shock defeat.

Jurgen Klopp's side lost 3-0 to Atalanta in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final, a tie they were expected to easily navigate.

Littler is a huge Manchester United fan, so he was never going to miss the chance to stick it to his team's arch-rivals even if he was minutes away from taking on Van Gerwen.

In-between beating Humphries and facing the Dutchman, Littler shared the Liverpool result on his Instagram Story with the caption: "Oh dear", alongside a monkey head-in-hands emoji.

Fans couldn't believe it.

"Just averaged 107 to beat Luke Humphries & to go within one of picking up three consecutive nightly wins in the Premier League and in between he’s active on Instagram laughing at Liverpool. Living the life is Luke Littler," one fan commented on X.

Another wondered: "What reception will Luke Littler receive in Liverpool in two weeks?"

A third fan suggested that the 17-year-old should have kept his mouth shut, saying: "Luke Littler taking the time to slag off Liverpool on his Instagram before that final was never going to be a good omen."
