Darts fans spot what Luke Littler's opponent did during his nine-darter attempt at Players Championship

A classic moment.

Darts fans spotted what Luke Littler's opponent did during his second nine-darter attempt at Players Championship 1 on Tuesday.

Littler rattled in a nine-darter in his last 32 clash against Italian dartist Michele Turetta in Wigan.

He then defeated Cameron Menzies, James Hurrell and Alan Soutar to set up a mouth-watering final against fellow top 32 player Ryan Searle.

In a remarkable encounter, Searle averaged 111 but still lost 8-7 in a match that saw only one leg won with over 15 darts.

Littler, therefore, secured his first Players Championship title at his first attempt, alongside becoming one of three players to start the ProTour season with a nine-darter in what was a sensational day of action.

But the 17-year-old hit eight perfect darts in his match against world number 55Menzies in his attempt to secure yet another piece of darting history.

No player has ever hit two nine-darters on the same day in a ProTour event - and Littler agonisingly missed double 12 to do just that.

With no crowd at the Players Championship event, fans who tune in via PDC TV can hear everything that goes on, and see exactly how the players react.

Already 4-0 down in the match by the time of Littler's second nine-dart attempt of the day, you could forgive Menzies for feeling slightly disheartened.

But as 'The Nuke' fired in his first 180, the Scotsman had a smile to himself before affording the 17-year-old a small round of applause.

And viewers then spotted Menzies lifting his arms up in readiness to celebrate as Littler aimed for D12 - despite being his opponent.

Fans loved the antics of Menzies, who is one of the most popular players on tour.

One wrote: "Bloke just loves darts even if he's getting pumped."

Another added: "He's absolutely fantastic. Can tell he just loves darts."

And a third joked: "His face when he hits treble 20 on the last three darts."

Menzies, who went viral before last year's World Championship after he completed a plumbing shift prior to his first round match, couldn't help but joke about the margin of defeat to Littler.

Taking to X (Twitter), he said: "Anyone got some Vaseline?"
