Luke Littler begins major darts boycott after withdrawing from three events

Luke Littler's darts boycott is in full swing after it emerged he has pulled out of three events after slamming the treatment he received from fans in the Netherlands.

The world No.1 participated in the World Series of Darts Finals last week, reaching the quarter finals before being beaten by Jonny Clayton in the quarter-finals.

The defeat denied Littler the chance to make history and become the first player to win all 10 majors as his dominant run in the premier events came to an end.

But Littler was left furious by the antics from the Dutch crowd, who subjected him to boos in multiple matches.

It happened against Danny Noppert of the Netherlands, before it continued in his 10-9 loss to friend and compatriot Nathan Aspinall in Amsterdam.

The persistent whistling forced Charlie Corstorphine to step in and order the fans to stop.

Littler has already initiated a boycott on events in Germany for similar behaviour and threatened to do the same in the Netherlands.

“If the Dutch stay like this, then I’m not going to do any Euro Tours over there," Littler said after his win over Noppert.

“There’s just no point in me travelling, wasting my time while I’m getting booed.

“I just want to play my darts, obviously sign autographs.

“The past two nights, I’ve done nothing, I’ve just walked off stage without thanking anybody. There’s no point thanking everyone when they are booing me.”

'The Nuke' has followed through with his threat, first pulling out of Players Championship 29 and 30 in Den Bosch, Netherlands.

In addition, he has cancelled his entry into the Dutch Darts Championship which takes place in Maastricht from 16 to 18 October.

Littler is not the only notable absentee, with Gary Anderson and Josh Rock also pulling out. There has been no confirmation that Littler's withdrawal is linked to his frustration with the spectators and how they reacted to him.

16-time world champion Phil Taylor is a huge fan of teenage sensation Littler and back in June, he spoke about the abuse players he receive and said that anyone who does so, should be escorted from the venue immediately.

'The Power' said "if it was any other walk of life then people would be arrested" and said he "had to get a dictionary sometimes because they were using words I’d never heard of".

Taylor claimed that the only solution to ensure fans do not abuse the players is to throw them out and hit them where it hurts.

“I never cried but I felt like jumping over the barrier and smashing somebody’s face in a few times, of course you do," Taylor admitted.

“Many times I’ve had to ask security: ‘Tell them to shut their mouths.’

“For somebody who’s like 17, 18 years old, it’s life-destroying. The lad is up there trying to make a living and entertain people.

“If Robbie Williams was on stage singing and getting abused… it wouldn’t happen.

“What’s the solution? Just throw them out. Hit them in the pocket.

“They pay for a ticket. If they start whistling and booing and doing whatever they feel like, then out you go. They won’t do it again.”
