She led 3-2 at the first break before Humphries fought back to level the contest 5-5.

The world No.1 women's player then moved 7-5 in front with a break of throw, but Humphries found his own break to lead 8-7.

A second added: "Luke Humphries has been a class & professional world #1 for over 12 months now. The lad is golden and isn’t getting the plaudits in mainstream circles that he deserves."

A third tweeted: "Never understood why he’s disliked always seems a proper decent fella."

A fourth said: "Humphries is a class act. Beau is a damn good player. Love to see it!"

Another commented: "You can’t say a bad word about Humphries. Quality player and even better human."

Speaking after his victory, Humphries said: "I really enjoyed the game. It was great fun and Beau played amazing.

"She is a fantastic player and she really had to bring out the best in me. The ladies' game has grown massively and it is because of her.

"If it had been a Premier League game she would have beaten me. She is probably a top-64 player in the world, but you don't want to put too much pressure on her."
