Fans have been reacting on social media after England suffered a shock defeat at the World Cup of Darts.

On Saturday evening, the 2025 BetVictor World Cup of Darts continued inside the Eissporthalle in Frankfurt, Germany.

Number one seeds and defending champion England were in action against the hosts, Germany.

Led by world number one Luke Humphries and reigning world champion Luke Littler, many expected England to go all the way.

However, the German pair of Martin Schindler and Ricardo Pietreczko had other ideas.

Schindler and Pietreczko were in a rampant mood as they raced to an 8-4 win over Humphries and Littler.

It was a horrible night for the two Lukes as they missed numerous doubles and their overall scoring was way below the usual standards.

Speaking on commentary, Wayne Mardle joked: "How quickly can MBEs be taken away?"

Taking to social media, fans were quick to agree with Mardle's tongue in cheek comment as they reacted to England's shock defeat.

One fan said: "Take them mbes back! My God!"

Another joked: "Wayne Mardle "How quickly can MBEs be taken away?"

A third fan added: "Wayne Mardle kills me hahahaha."

Someone else wrote: "Give both of their MBEs to Wayne Mardle."

A fifth commented: "MBEs you’re having a laugh!"

Speaking after the match, Schindler said: "We believed in ourselves. A solid performance and double 16s from Ricardo when it mattered."

Pietreczko added: "It's unbelievable."

In terms of the stats, England averaged 93.34, which was just slightly lower than Germany's 93.70

However, the English pair only managed to hit four out of 11 doubles, which equated to just a 36% success rate.

Meanwhile, the Germans pinned eight out of 13, which proved to be the main difference.

England's defeat appeared to have proved Scottish darter Peter Wright correct, after Snakebite predicted that the two Lukes 'won't click'.

He said: "Littler is a fantastic player, a worthy world champion and all the other titles he has won, fantastic, but he is going up there playing pairs.

"I know he played as a youth for England, but whether he can do it in the seniors, I don't know. They might go out and bash everybody up, but I am thinking they won't click."
