An officially WDF-approved dartboard that features a new 'dark mode' colour scheme has received a mixed reception from fans following its release.
For many years, a regulation dartboard has included alternating black and white segments that divide the board into 20 equal scoring sections, numbered 1 to 20.
These contrasting colours make it easier for players to distinguish between the different scoring zones and improve overall visibility during gameplay, according to DartsConnect.

Professional-grade dartboards have remained the same for decades, but this month, leading Dutch dart brand Bull's NL released a distinctive design featuring grey segments instead of white.
The Advantage Black, which was advertised to the public in November 2025, has been approved by the World Darts Federation.
So, why the new look?
Instead of traditional white sections, the board features dark grey segments that create visual contrast, with creators Bull's NL claiming that it makes doubles and triples more prominent, which makes you "focus on them better."

The design is completed with a matte gold number ring and matching ultra-thin 1 mm knife-wire. This is said to enhance scoring potential by reducing bounce-outs.
As well as the above, the board has logos above all the black segments, ensuring the design remains perfectly aligned when the board is turned to optimise focus when playing.
Earlier this week, Bull's Darts NL posted a picture of the board on its social media pages. They wrote: "Dartboards have stayed the same for years… until now."
The company added: "Bull’s introduces the Advantage Black, an officially WDF approved dartboard in a sleek, darker design. Don’t be surprised if you see this beauty at your next tournament."

Here's how darts fans have reacted to the new design.
One wrote: "Best looking dartboard on the market? The new @BullsDartsNL Advantage Black is stunning and unique. Wow," while a second said: "I think as a decoration it would look amazing but can't imagine it actually being used."
A third commented: "The more I look at it, the more I’m liking it," while a fourth wrote: "They got Darts Dark Mode before GTA 6."

A fifth added: "I don't think too many would be happy seeing this in a real tournament unfortunately. If it holds up to WDFs regulations, which means it makes the list, then that's fine. But I, and I assume many others would much rather play on an Advantage 7.01 with traditional colours."
