Why Raheem Sterling Has Not Signed A New Manchester City Contract Yet

Why Raheem Sterling Has Not Signed A New Manchester City Contract Yet

As he approaches the final 12 months of contract, the reasons behind Raheem Sterling's Manchester City hesitancy have been revealed.

It would certainly not be a far-fetched claim to suggest that Raheem Sterling ranks highly amongst the list of players at Manchester City whose futures can currently be deemed uncertain.

Despite a wide number of credible sources claiming that officials within the Etihad Stadium have already offered the England international a brand-new deal, the player is yet to commit his longer-term future to the club, as his contract is set to expire in the summer of 2023.

With several top European clubs unsurprisingly keeping a close eye on the situation surrounding one of Europe’s standout wingers ahead of next season, the reasons behind why Raheem Sterling is still biding his time on deciding whether to sign a new contract or not have been revealed.

According to a report by ESPN’s Rob Dawson, Raheem Sterling is ‘keenly aware’ of the fact that the next contract he signs with any club is likely to be the most ‘important’ of his career, as a long-term deal at Manchester City could put an end to his chances of playing abroad.

As a result, Raheem Sterling is said to have not ‘ruled out’ a move away from the Premier League this summer, with the likes of European heavyweight duo Bayern Munich and Real Madrid assessing his ongoing situation at Manchester City ‘closely’.

Additionally, the four-time Premier League champion is also claimed to be holding ‘concerns’ over his place in Pep Guardiola’s plans for the future, and is unwilling to ‘settle’ for a role of a bit-part player at the Etihad Stadium in the years to come.

This factor may especially be closely considered by the rapid wideman as he played the least amount of football last season since his debut campaign at Manchester City. The Englishman was also excluded from the starting eleven in the side’s three biggest games in the previous term; Real Madrid in the two-legged Champions League semi-final, as well as Aston Villa on the final day of the Premier League season.

As Raheem Sterling has previously expressed his desire of testing himself in a foreign league, only time will tell whether he does decide to leave Manchester City or further build his legacy at a club where he is already considered as a legend by many supporters.
