Manchester City hit with £260,000 fine and warning from Football Association following rule breach

In a statement released by the Football Association, Manchester City have been sanctioned following a rule breach last season.

The Football Association have issued a statement confirming that Manchester City have been sanctioned following a breach of rules last season.

The breach of rules came following the club's successful Premier League title win on the final day of the 2021/22 season.

Manchester City came from two goals down to win 3-2 on a dramatic final day at the Etihad Stadium.

However, following the final whistle, thousands of those in attendance at the ground entered the playing area.

In light of the incident, the FA have now confirmed that the Etihad club will received sanctions, including a financial penalty.

An official statement from the governing body released on Friday afternoon read:

"The club admitted that it failed to ensure its spectators - and all those purporting to be its supporters or followers - conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and refrained from using threatening and violent behaviour while encroaching onto the pitch after the final whistle.

"An independent Regulatory Commission imposed these sanctions during a subsequent hearing and its written reasons for them will be published in due course."

The success on the day of the aforementioned incident was Manchester City's fourth Premier League title in the last five seasons.

Pep Guardiola has overseen one of the most dominant eras in English football history, and the ongoing season is the latest pursuit of English top-flight success from his side.

Up next for Manchester City is a home clash against Southampton - a side who have often caused problems for the Sky Blues.

However, this season has seen a new-look attack from Manchester City, featuring the inevitable goalscorer Erling Haaland.

The Norway international has transformed the way opposition defences approach City, striking fears into the eyes of his competitors.

In his opening 12 matches, Haaland has scored a staggering 19 goals, accompanied by a further three assists.
