23-man Manchester City squad spotted in training ahead of Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund

A list of 23 Manchester City players have been spotted in training on Tuesday morning, ahead of their second Champions League group stage clash this week.

The Premier League champions host Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night, with the Bundesliga giants travelling to Manchester on Tuesday afternoon.

Pep Guardiola's side come in to the clash off the back of a dominant win over Sevilla last week, with a brace from Erling Haaland contributing to a 4-0 win in Spain.

However, the weekend went by without any competitive action.

The passing of The Queen in the UK led to postponements of football at all levels in the country, meaning Manchester City's clash against Tottenham was called off and is expected to be rescheduled in 2023.

Manchester City sustained one injury blow at Villa Park in their last Premier League match, with full-back Kyle Walker being replaced through injury.

Elsewhere, Aymeric Laporte has made significant progress on his return to fitness, although is not expected to be fully match fit for this week, despite training with the rest of the squad this week.

Training for the final time at the City Football Academy ahead of their second Champions League match of the season, a list of 23 outfield players have been spotted out on the surface on Tuesday morning.

Goalkeeper: Ederson, Stefan Ortega Moreno, Scott Carson.

Defenders: Rico Lewis, Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji, Aymeric Laporte, Nathan Ake, John Stones, Sergio Gomez, Josh Wilson-Esbrand.

Midfielders: Rodri, Kalvin Phillips, Ilkay Gundogan, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva.

Forwards: Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez, Erling Haaland, Riyad Mahrez, Cole Palmer, Jack Grealish.

Following the clash against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night, Manchester City will refocus towards the return of Premier League action on Saturday afternoon.

While some fixtures continue to be postponed this weekend, Pep Guardiola's side and Wolves have been given the green light to go ahead as planned, largely due to assurances over policing at the fixture.

A statement from the Premier League on Monday evening read:

"Premier League fixtures will resume this weekend after a pause to the season as a mark of respect following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. 

"Seven of the 10 Premier League fixtures this weekend will be played, with three matches postponed due to events surrounding The Queen’s funeral."

The statement continued, "In addition, kick-off times will change for two Premier League matches.

"Matches postponed on Sunday 18 September are Chelsea’s matches against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, and Manchester United’s home match v Leeds United.

"Brighton & Hove Albion’s fixture against Crystal Palace, that was due to be played at 15:00 BST on Saturday 17 September, will also remain postponed."
