Manchester City take on Aston Villa on Saturday in search of their third Premier League victory on the spin.

The reigning champions followed up a thrilling comeback triumph against Crystal Palace with a 6-0 thrashing of Nottingham Forest in midweek.

Erling Haaland took his goal tally for his debut season in the Premier League to nine after just five games since he joined City from Borussia Dortmund for £51 million this summer.

Aston Villa have made an underwhelming start to the season and are languishing in 19th place ahead of a visit from Pep Guardiola's in-form Blues.

Steven Gerrard's men enter the upcoming clash off the back of three back-to-back losses but will take encouragement from their spirited display at the Etihad Stadium in May.

Villa maintained a two-goal lead over the Premier League champions till the closing 15 minutes of the tie on a day there was next to no margin for error in City's bid to retain the league title.

Guardiola will be keen on maintaining his side's promising run of form as Manchester City kick off their Champions League campaign with a tricky test away at Sevilla next week.

The games will now come thick and fast for the Blues, who could again see Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez found the net five times amongst themselves against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.

Here is the complete team news for each side ahead of what could be an exciting 90 minutes of football at Villa Park on Saturday evening-

Aston Villa team news

Villa boasted a near fully-fit squad in their 2-1 defeat against Arsenal in midweek, with goals from Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli doing the damage for Mikel Arteta's side at the Emirates Stadium.

Gerrard will miss long term absentee Diego Carlos against Manchester City as the defender recovers from surgery after rupturing his Achilles' tendon.

Leander Dendoncker and Jan Bednarek could be in line to make their respective Villa debuts after signing for the Lions on deadline day, though the former could need assessing due to a sore throat.

Pep Guardiola confirmed in his pre-match press conference that Jack Grealish and Nathan Ake trained ahead of the trip to Birmingham.

The Catalan expressed the aforementioned pair would be further assessed on Friday before a decision on their respective availabilities would be made for Saturday.

Guardiola added that Kalvin Phillips did not train with the squad ahead of the game and hence looks set to miss City's sixth league game of the campaign as he nurses a forearm issue.

Aymeric Laporte, who has been in recovery after undergoing knee surgery, should be back in action following the international break at the end of the month, as confirmed by Guardiola on Friday.
