Manchester City Confirm Julian Alvarez’s Arrival As Player Offers First Reaction To Transfer

After completing the signing in January, Julian Alvarez will arrive in the country this weekend to begin his preparations with Man City.

Julian Alvarez will arrive in the country this weekend to begin his pre-season preparations with Manchester City, the club have confirmed.

In January, City announced that they had completed the signing of the Argentine on a five-and-a-half year contract for £14.1 million, with the player heading straight back on loan to River Plate for the remainder of the campaign.

There was a bit of confusion as to what the plans were with the 22-year-old, but it was quickly established that he was to become a big part of Pep Guardiola's team next season.

Speaking to CityTV, Alvarez has gave his initial reaction to finally completing the move.

“I am incredibly happy and I feel ready to play for City,” he began.

“This is, without doubt, one of the biggest teams in world football.

"You only have to see what this team has won in the last decade to understand the quality of the setup.

“I feel confident I can flourish here. The style of play Pep encourages is exciting and I can’t wait to be a part of it."

Alvarez continued: “City has an amazing recent history of Argentinian players and I want to put my stamp on the Club in the same way Sergio Aguero, Pablo Zabaleta and Carlos Tevez did.

“I am so thankful for everything River Plate did for me and I want to thank the fans, staff and players for their support.

“But I am now 100% focused on Manchester City.

"I want to give my best to this club, help my teammates and contribute to Manchester City’s success.”

Also giving his reaction, Manchester City's Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain believes the club have acquired one of the most exciting prospects in world football.

“I said when we announced the signing we were getting a player of significant potential and everything we have seen from him since then has only confirmed that," Begiristain said.

“He scores all kinds of goals and has real variety in his game.

“We feel with the manager and staff we have here, he can develop even further and become a really top player.”

With the arrivals of Erling Haaland, Kalvin Phillips and Stefan Ortega, it already seems like Manchester City are entering a new era under manager Pep Guardiola.

Adding to that the sale of Gabriel Jesus and the imminent sale of Raheem Sterling to Chelsea, the club is certain freshening up the squad ahead of the campaign.
