Manchester City have officially released their away strip for the 2022/23 season this morning.

In collaboration with major sponsors Puma, the kit features a red and black diagonal stripped shirt - a throwback to the club's famous 1969 FA Cup and the 1970 League Cup and European Cup Winners’ Cup jersey.

Just yesterday, the club teased supporters by sharing a video of that successful side parading the trophy and hinting at a Tuesday release.

The strip is finished off by black shorts and black socks and will likely be donned in City's visits to the likes of Old Trafford and Anfield.

This throwback to City heritage seems to be a running theme in the designs of this seasons kits.

Earlier this summer, the Blues released the Sky Blue home shirt, with the design - titled the King - all in honour of the late-Colin Bell - one of the club's greatest ever players.

The slick colour, maroon trimmings and centralised badge was an instant hit and recorded the highest even opening day sales for the club.

We'll see the new kits in action for the first time this week, as City kick-off their pre-season tour of the US with two friendlies in Houston, Texas and Wisconsin.

The first of them games is against Liga MX side, Club América, with new signings Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez, Kalvin Phillips and Stefan Ortega all in line to make their debuts.

Pep Guardiola will be hoping the team can build some vital match fitness ahead of a hectic World Cup-filled season - which kicks off with a visit to West Ham United on the opening day.

Before that, however, they also travel to the King Power Stadium.

Due to the ongoing Women's European Championships, the annual Community Shield curtain raiser will take place away from Wembley Stadium.

City - the Premier League champions - face familiar foes in Liverpool, who won last year's FA Cup.
