Manchester City retained their Premier League title in dramatic fashion on the last day of the season in May, and in the process, quelled Liverpool’s hopes of completing an unprecedented quadruple.
Three goals in less than six minutes sent shockwaves around the Etihad Stadium, as two goals from Ilkay Gundogan and a long-range strike from Rodri secured the Sky Blues’ fourth Premier League title in five years, as Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa collapsed to a 3-2 defeat.
The victory, which was Manchester City’s 29th league win of the 2021/22 season, ensured that Pep Guardiola’s side had successfully seen off Jurgen Klopp’s relentless team once again, with the Merseyside club finishing one point behind the Blues for a second time in four years.
Another thrilling title race had ensued between the two North-West giants, and despite ongoing battles on the pitch, pictures obtained by The Sun now suggest that rivalries are not quite as intense away from it.
Manchester City and Liverpool drew 2-2 on the two occasions they met in the Premier League during the course of the campaign, while the Reds beat the Blues in the FA Cup Semi-Finals at Wembley Stadium in April.
After a challenging campaign, followed by a series of UEFA Nations League matches, Premier League stars have begun their summer holidays - with a number of players pictured to be enjoying the off-season in the United States.
Jack Grealish is among the players to have chosen the United States for his vacation, and the 26 year-old caused somewhat of a stir online, after being photographed with Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson in Las Vegas.
Grealish, who joined Manchester City for a record £100 million fee from Aston Villa last year, made 39 appearances during his debut season, where the England international scored six goals and recorded four assists.
Manchester City are due to meet Liverpool in the FA Community Shield next month, with the annual season curtain-raiser taking place at the King Power Stadium on July 31st.
Grealish was handed his Manchester City debut in last season’s Community Shield loss to Leicester, meanwhile this year’s fixture could see new strikers Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez handed their first competitive starts for the Premier League Champions.
Haaland turned down interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain to secure his dream move to the Etihad Stadium this summer, and fans will certainly be excited to see him get started.
As for Alvarez, the Argentine sensation was understood to be on the radar of Manchester United, but City ultimately moved first and secured their man.
Pep Guardiola has attacking options in abundance this season, despite a number of exits still expected during the remaining months of the summer window.
Raheem Sterling is the subject of growing interest from Premier League rivals Chelsea.
While Gabriel Jesus is on the verge of completing a big-money move to be reunited with Mikel Arteta at Arsenal this summer.
