Manchester City take on Brighton in the Premier League this afternoon, as they look to get back to winning ways following last weekend's Anfield disappointment.

In the English top-flight, Pep Guardiola's side could continue their chase down of Arsenal - with Mikel Arteta's side leading the pack in the hunt for the Premier League crown.

Manchester City's last outing saw them fall to defeat in the Premier League, as a second-half strike from Mohamed Salah proved to be the difference between the reigning champions and Liverpool.

While the free-scoring Erling Haaland failed to notch against the Reds, the Norway international will be hungrier than ever to continue his outstanding run of form in Sky Blue.

Last time out in the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium, it was a Riyad Mahrez penalty in the second-half, a strike from the aforementioned Norwegian frontman, accompanying goals from Phil Foden and Joao Cancelo in a 4-0 win over Southampton.

VAR drama and officiating decisions hampered City's outing over at Anfield, and Pep Guardiola will be hoping for less involvement from the middle this weekend.

Anthony Taylor was referred to the pitchside monitor on Sunday afternoon, ruling out a Phil Foden strike in front of the travelling away fans for a foul from Erling Haaland in the build-up.

This weekend, City will be buoyed by the return of John Stones to the matchday squad.

The England international has been recovering from a hamstring injury sustained in a clash between England and Germany during the most recent break for national teams.

Stones will be hoping now to build up fitness and form in time for the World Cup, while also positively contributing to Manchester City's Premier League title charge before the break for the major tournament in November.
