It has previously been reported that Pep Guardiola will be given the licence to bring in new players in the January transfer window to further bolster his squad.
Considering Manchester City’s sights are set on triumphing on multiple fronts, boosting their squad depth with the addition of some fresh faces would go a long way in helping the side win silverware.
Furthermore, City will have a number of players representing their countries at the upcoming Qatar World Cup.

This will also increase the chances of fatigue and injury for them, especially as partaking in an international tournament mid-season remains unprecedented.
Keeping that in mind as well, it does make sense why the Premier League champions are open to the idea of investing into new signings upon the turn of the year.
While Manchester City’s squad is generally well-stocked in most areas, left-back continues to be an ongoing concern.

Despite Joao Cancelo picking up exactly where he left off from last term, the use of Sergio Gomez so far is a cause for concern amongst several Manchester City supporters.
With the Spaniard handed just one start up until this point, there are many that believe that he is not deemed ready yet to push Cancelo for first-team minutes yet.
Restricted to substitute appearances - aside from his one start in the Champions League - the former RSC Anderlecht defender is yet to cement his place in the starting line-up at the Etihad Stadium.

As a result, a fresh revelation suggests that Pep Guardiola’s side are eyeing the addition of yet another left-back.
According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, Manchester City have ‘gathered information’ about Alejandro Grimaldo in the past couple of months.
It has been claimed that the good news for the Sky Blues remains that Benfica are understood to have considered the Spaniard’s sale in January, considering his current contract expires next summer.
However, the English giants face stiff competition from the likes of Juventus, Barcelona, Arsenal and Inter Milan for his signature.

It is mentioned that Juve have their sights set on Grimaldo, who in turn is said to be open to a move to Turin or any new destination currently.
Only time will tell whether City’s interest is significant enough for them to snap the La Masia graduate in January, or risk losing out on his arrival by assessing the situation in the summer.
Ultimately, the arrival of a brand-new left-back such as Alejandro Grimaldo could elevate the side’s chance of reigning supreme on a number of fronts at the end of the season.
