Tyson Fury makes worrying Anthony Joshua fight claim as key contract clause revealed

The British heavyweights are set to return to action later this week ahead of a potential blockbuster fight later this year.

Tyson Fury has cast doubt on his proposed all-British heavyweight showdown with Anthony Joshua, while ‘AJ’ has revealed a major contract stipulation he wants to add.

Both Fury and Joshua will fight over the weekend, with the self-proclaimed ‘Gypsy King’ weighing in at 265lbs ahead of his fight against Poland’s Mariusz Wach, which will take place in front of just 1,500 fans in Pattaya, Thailand, on Friday (July 24).

Fury’s bout will also not be televised and instead will form part of the next season of Netflix’s At Home with the Furys, with proceeds from ticket sales going to local charities.

Then, on Saturday (July 25), Joshua faces Albania’s Kristian Prenga in what will be his first fight since he was involved in a fatal car accident that resulted in the tragic deaths of his friends Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele in December 2025.

The timing and relatively low-level opponents both fighters are facing appear to lend themselves to AJ and Fury meeting in a long-awaited showdown later this year.

Speaking to BOXING Now, Joshua agreed that the fight should take place at London’s Wembley Stadium.

“I’m pushing [to have the fight at Wembley],” he said. “It’s in our contract; Eddie [Hearn] put it in the contract. He said it has to be in the UK. I think it is, though, right? Or is it just that people are talking about it… You know what, let me focus on Prenga, god damn it.”

Tyson Fury casts doubt on Anthony Joshua fight

And while Joshua appears to be open to a blockbuster fight with Fury later this year, the ‘Gypsy King’ appeared to hint that he may even fight again before taking on his compatriot.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Fury unleashed a scathing rant towards Joshua, suggesting he is open to fighting “somebody else” later this year instead of AJ.

"Let's not make this about silly Mr Bodybuilder,” Fury said.

“I'm not interested in him or his mates or anybody else. I don't give a **** about him. I don't care if I ever see him again in my life. If I do, I do. If I don't, I don't.

"I'm not interested in him, anybody should do for him - his manager, his wife, his sister, his cousin. No interest.

"We have got five months left of the year, so I want to get this fella [Wach] boxed, do well, and do what I can.

"I know I can beat this fella. I beat this fella with one hand, and that's not to say anything bad about Mariusz, but I'm in good form. I could beat all of these heavyweights with one hand. But I'm in good shape. I'm in fine fettle, injury-free and I'm ready to rock and roll.

"There's five months to get another fight in before the end of year. And if it is your man Anthony Joshua, good. And if it's not, then I'll be fighting somebody else."

Joshua responded to Fury’s claims by insisting he will hold up his side of the bargain by beating Prenga this weekend before taking a dig at the Gypsy King’s physical appearance.

"He's always been talking about my body for so many years," he said.

"What I would do for him at a discounted rate because of his profile, I'll help him transform his body from being a greedy belly into a bodybuilder. I'll give him a set of six-pack abs.

"I'll give him a set of abs. If he's really keen to know what it takes to look like this, I'll help him out. He's always obsessed with my abs.

"It's going down. If I get past my next fight, I've stood up, I've done my part of the bargain. And now it's up to your mate, Mr Greedy Belly, to fulfil his obligation to get in the ring with me."

Fury has also been heavily linked with a fight with Agit Kabayel.
