Bellew is a late addition to this year's series of the ITV show alongside jockey Frankie Dettori.

He revealed that it was his wife that convinced him to take part in the reality TV competition.

"This is going to be very hard and I am apprehensive. I had to think long and hard about doing it because it is so out of my comfort zone and it was my missus who talked me around to doing it," he revealed.

He added that 'most things' scare him, but he hopes his time down under will allow him to overcome his fears.

"It’s a big job to jolly everyone up but I will arrive, talk to people and see who I get on with," added Bellew. "I would like to think I will get on with everyone as I don’t think there is a type of person I haven’t encountered before from the background."

ITV don't disclose how much each contestant is being paid, but the celebrities are usually paid between £30,000 and £600,000. Former controversial leader of UKIP and the Brexit Party Nigel Farage is said to being paid a whopping £1.5 million.

Bellew isn't the first boxer to enter the jungle as Chris Eubank, David Haye and Amir Khan have also appeared on the show over the years.

Haye, Eubank and Khan earned a reported £165,000, £200,000 and £400,000 for their appearances respectively.

Bellew, a former world champion boxer, is no stranger to the reality TV world, having been a contestant on SAS: Who Dares Wins in 2020.

More recently, the Liverpool fighter has provided punditry and commentary for DAZN's boxing coverage.

Bellew called time on his storied boxing career following his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in November 2018.

He won the WBC world cruiserweight title during his career and boasts two wins over I'm a Celebrity alum Haye.
