Simon Colbran, known on TikTok as ‘Simple Simon’, is boxing Ed Matthews in a hotly anticipated ‘TikTok bout’. 

Simple Simon is a 51 year old football coach who runs Stars Football Academy in East Sussex, he has 350.1K followers on the platform and has consumed himself in beef with 20 year old Ed Matthews.

Matthews has accused Simon of associating himself with Cal the Dragon, a man with 1.5 million TikTok followers, in order to exploit Cal’s fame and increase his own following. This has sent tensions to boiling point, it’s getting pretty intense out here folks. 

Matthews currently has 60.1 K followers on TikTok, a reduction from the 550 K followers that he accumulated before his account was banned. Both fighters have a significant following and the fight is expected to attract a large audience. Despite this, the press conference was reportedly held round the back of a supermarket. This may not be a glamorous event, but it’s provocative, it’s got the people going.

Many boxers train for years in the hope that one day their fights will achieve the level of attention that this bout has. The significant publicity for this contest between two amateurs with minimal experience is a clear indicator of the power of TikTok fame. 

When is the fight?

The fight is taking place on 16th July. The venue is The Indigo at the O2 Arena. The Indigo is a smaller arena that sits within the O2, it has seen the likes of Justin Timberlake, Pixie Lott and Ed Sheeran perform and has a capacity of around 2,500.
