Boxers know full and well that there's a good chance of them ending up with black eyes and all sorts of cuts and bruises after they've been in the ring, but we can safely say the state of boxer Mason Cartwright's face today is the worst we have ever seen.
The welterweight fought Darren Tetley in an excellent WBO European title bout on the Selby-Warrington card at Elland Road, the fight being stopped after the referee consulted with the doctor - with Cartwright's lip an absolute mess.

The 25-year old, from Ellesmere Port in Cheshire, being the absolute warrior he is - wanted to continue but it's clear that the ninth round stoppage was for the best - especially judging by the gruesome injuries Cartwright suffered.
Cartwright posted the clip, not for the squeamish, on his Twitter account and vowed to be back soon.
The victorious Tetley showed his class on social media, paying respect to his opponent and apologising for the way their cracking slugfest finished.
Cartwright's nickname is 'Nutty' and evidence as to why that's his moniker can be found in the fact he wanted to keep fighting despite his lip being in a sickening state.

Here's hoping he makes a quick recovery and we can see the two square off in a rematch at some point down the line.
