Manny Pacquiao retired from boxing after his Timothy Bradley fight in April and he's gone straight from fighting in the ring to fighting in the senate in his home country the Philippines. He's now fighting for the death penalty by hanging.

In 1986 the Philippines became the first Asian country to abolish capital punishment when they did away with the death penalty. However two Senators are going to push for it to be brought back for "terrorists, plunderers, rapists and drug pushers" whilst President Rodrigo Duterte also wants it brought back.

And Senator Pacquiao, the former pound-for-pound best boxer in the world, is in agreement to bring it back but would rather see it done by hanging than lethal injection believing it to be more humane for the convict but also the doctor who would administer the injection.

Speaking to reporters on Monday the 37 year old said, "For me the death penalty, hanging. The law also doctors are not allowed to kill people. "

Senator Panfilo Lacson filed the the bill to reintroduce the death penalty for certain convictions including murder, rape and kidnapping however he has filed for lethal injection to be the way those sentenced will be killed.

It won't be the first time that the former boxer's views have caused controversy, back in February he called gay people "worse than animals."
