UFC star Nate Diaz will "watch what happens" before deciding on his next opponent.

And it appears MMA fans may have to wait for Diaz's Octagon return. The Stockton slugger spoke about his future during Bellator 238 on Saturday.

"I want to watch what happens in the next few months," he told ESPN.

Diaz continued by dismissing Conor McGregor's UFC 246 victory over Donald Cerrone.

"Cowboy doesn't care about winning and losing, so [McGregor] didn't have a very hard fight on his hands," he added.

And when asked about an ideal timetable for his return, he said: "When the time is right."

McGregor made a triumphant return to the UFC two weeks ago and he called for a trilogy bout with his arch rival.

"Let's go Nathan. Let's go brother," he said during his post-fight press conference. "No 3. It's always here. We're right here Nathan."

McGregor's coach John Kavanagh wants his star pupil to fight Justin Gaethje, but he believes a third fight with Diaz is "inevitable".

"I'm not going to lie; I'm a fan of Nate Diaz and the Diaz brothers," he told talkSPORT.com.

"The two fights they had were fantastic, we're 1-1.

"So it seems inevitable that those paths are going to cross again but let's see what happens."
