Why Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk for April 29 collapsed

Why Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk for April 29 collapsed

Talks between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk have broken down.

The reason why Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk collapsed has been revealed and it goes beyond the purse split.

According to Usyk's manager, the blockbuster undisputed clash for April 29 at Wembley Stadium is OFF.

Both camps had been locked in talks over a big showdown in London, England, but discussions have broken down.

The Ukrainian's manager, Egis Klimas, said: "No matter how much Usyk compromised, he was pushed for more."

He added: "If this fight is going to happen, only April 29th. Or it's just going to be cancelled, and we'll go with the mandatory."

It comes after Usyk had agreed a 70-30 split in favour of Fury following back-and-forth social media exchanges over a no-rematch clause.

But, according to ESPN's sources, Fury and Usyk 'couldn't agree on other material terms critical to the deal beyond the split.'

As a result, the WBA (super), WBO, IBF and The Ring Magazine champion has shut down his training camp and will regroup with his team to plot his next move.

Usyk, who defended his world titles against Anthony Joshua last summer, could return in June/July in a mandatory defence, potentially against Brit Daniel Dubois.

His victory over Joshua in Saudi Arabia was his last appearance inside a ring, having dethroned 'AJ' in September 2021 to become unified champion.

As for Fury, he hasn't fought since his stoppage victory over Dereck Chisora last December. He also beat Dillian Whyte in 2022 following his knockout victory over Deontay Wilder.

'The Gypsy King' could still return next month, but, of course, against a different opponent, having started his training camp.

A Fury vs. Usyk bout would have crowned boxing's first undisputed heavyweight world champion in the four-belt era.
