Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr. contested one of the most highly anticipated bouts of 2025 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in November 2025.
Benn came out on top, avenging his previous defeat against Eubank Jr. with a unanimous decision victory on an entertaining night in North London.
However, Benn’s promoter Eddie Hearn has now revealed that he nearly pulled the 29-year-old out of the fight due to “problems”.
He made the comments after being asked about Eubank Jr.’s health.

He also uploaded a video of him in a hospital bed while wearing an oxygen mask to social media to highlight the extent of his troubles.
“I hope he can get well and healthy,” said Hearn during an interview with IFL TV.
“You know, sometimes you just have to take it on the chin. If you were so ill, what are the people around you doing even letting you fight?"
Hearn added: “The reality is is I was just in Dubai, people telling me he's training like a beast. When I saw him at the weigh-in, he looked phenomenal.
“Like 10 times better than he did at the weigh-in for the first fight, you know. He won't even want me to say Connor, but we were 24, 48 hours [away from] pulling Connor Ben out of the fight three weeks before the fight with problems. You have got to make that decision at some point, and you've got to go."
Benn beat Eubank Jr. 119-107, 116-110 and 118-108 on the judges’ scorecards in their second bout.
However, he was on the losing side the first time around, with all three judges scoring the fight 116-112 in Eubank Jr.’s favour.

Hearn believes it is unfair of Eubank Jr. to blame his defeat on an illness.
“Camp's never ideal, right?” he added.
“You work with fighters, you know, everybody's had an illness, everybody's had an injury at some point. Every fighter says, Chris Eubank included, going into this fight, ‘Camp's been unbelievable and I'm in the shape of my life’.
“Very, very unusual for that to actually be true. But we had to make decisions in camp whether we would proceed with the fight, but once you do, you never look back. You can't go through this and then all of a sudden start getting people to take photos of you."

Hearn continued: “And by the way, listen, I hope he gets better. He has got some kind of issue, but that's done and dusted. You went into the fight, you let people go into the fight. You look great and you trained really hard, but you lost.”
