They faced off in Saudi Arabia.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Conor McGregor squared up to each other at Tyson Fury's controversial win over Francis Ngannou.

The heavyweight fight was attended by numerous celebrities in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – with Ronaldo and McGregor two of the biggest names at ringside.

They were treated to a much closer contest than many expected, with Fury escaping with contentious split decision victory.

Despite being knocked down in the third round, Fury was awarded the win after the fight went the full 10 rounds. Check out the knockdown below.

The British fighter was given the win 96-93 and 95-94 on two of the judges' cards, with the other judge scoring it 95-94 for Ngannou.

Ahead of the bout, Al Nassr star Ronaldo met up with former UFC two-weight world champion McGregor.

And the pair took the opportunity to square up to each other in front of the cameras.

Thankfully, everyone appeared to be good spirits, with both men struggling to keep a straight face during the face-off.

Manchester United supporter McGregor then shared a hug with Ronaldo, describing the moment as "brilliant". Watch their interaction below.

Speaking after the fight, McGregor expressed his admiration for both Fury and Ngannou.

"Lovely shot that caught him on the back of the head, a bit off balance as well," said McGregor.

"Fair play to Tyson he's a tough man as well. Strong chin. And Jesus, Ngannou is a powerful boy as well. Tyson couldn't hold him. He was just missing with that backhand.

"Great fight, great to watch. Heavyweight boxing is exciting! Especially from the ringside. Add Usyk into that and it's going to be a tough ask for Fury as well."

Fury is now set to face unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed title, with the fight expected to take place early next year.
