John Cena has made an epic and unexpected return to WWE.

Roman Reigns had just defeated Edge in the Universal Championship at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view.

With the belt slung over his shoulder, he told the crowd that the 'whole world can acknowledge me' now that he's won.

However, before he could bask in the glory, Cena's unmistakable music started playing and the audience at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas went absolutely wild.

Dressed in a green and yellow t-shirt and shorts combo that read 'Never Give Up', Cena burst onto the stage to intense applause and cheer.

He screamed that he'd missed his beloved fans and looked absolutely delighted to be back where he made his name.

Cena sprinted into the ring to confront Reigns but he never said a word.

All he did was deliver the 'You Can't See Me' hand gesture and the programme cut to black, leaving audiences watching at home feel like they were watching an episode of The Sopranos.

Not much else is known about Cena's return, however WWE indicated we could be seeing a lot more of the wrestler this season.

The sport tweeted: "Friday nights on FOX are gonna be insane."

Only time will tell if this prophecy is true and we'll have to wait until the end of he week to see if Cena is back to switch up the game.

Cena will be on Raw tomorrow (Tuesday AEST) to explain his legendary second coming! WWE fans in Australia can catch it live on FOX8 from 10am.
