We May Have Just Witnessed Goldberg's Final Match in WWE

The WWE Hall of Famer could have featured for the last time.

The long and storied career of former WCW Heavyweight Champion Goldberg could be over.

Goldberg, currently signed to the WWE, competed in the last match of his current contract at Sunday's (AEDT) Elimination Chamber premium live event in Saudi Arabi against Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

WWE

The two were originally set to face-off at Wrestlemania 36 in 2020 with then Universal Champion Goldberg to defend against Reigns before he withdrew from the event amid the height of the Covid-19 pandemic due to his previous battles with cancer.

Goldberg returned to the company in 2016 after leaving the promotion in 2004, beating former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar in his return match at Survivor Series in 1:26 seconds.

It's widely expected that the 55-year-old will now retire or sign a new deal with the WWE and not jump ship to rival promotion All Elite Wrestling (AEW) as many former WWE stars have done since it's 2019 inception.

The win by Reigns over Goldberg now sets-up a mouth-watering matchup against Brock Lesnar at the company's biggest annual show, Wrestlemania, taking place in Dallas, Texas over two nights on April 2nd & April 3rd.

Lesnar left the Saudi show as WWE Champion after winning the Elimination Chamber match, meaning the two will collide in a 'Champion vs Champion' match-up that will be the culmination of a storyline that began back at Summerslam in August.

WWE

It won't be the first time the two have met at 'The Grandest Stage of Them All', first facing off at Wrestlemania 31 in 2015 (also with Seth Rollins) and then again at Wrestlemania 34 in 2018 with Lesnar retaining the Universal Championship over Reigns on that occasion.

Reigns is currently in the midst of a 537-day run as the company's top champion - it's longest in 30 years - and his win over Goldberg has now seen him defeat every former holder of the belt in its seven-year existence, including John Cena, Seth Rollins & Kevin Owens.
