Usain Bolt Names Seven Sprinters who Would Make his Dream 100m Lineup

The legendary Jamaican sprinter was asked for his preferred sprinting line-up

Usain Bolt has revealed the seven sprinters that would make up his dream 100m lineup.

The Jamaican sprint legend enjoyed one of the most decorated careers in athletics, winning eight Olympic gold medals across three Games, as he became the fastest man in history.

He still holds both the 100m and 200m world records, and claimed 11 world championship golds during an outstanding career. Bolt's dominance established him as one of the defining faces of sport.

Earlier this year, in an interview by his old rival Justin Gatlin, he was asked to name his dream 100m lineup. The 39-year-old began by listing five athletes from his generation: himself, Gatlin, Tyson Gay, Asafa Powell and Yohan Blake.

Bolt continued: "I would definitely like to compete against Maurice Green, Ben Johnson. It's tough to put a last one, just give Noah Lyles, just because I would love to race against him."

The inclusion of Lyles raised eyebrows, with the interview expressing shock at the American's inclusion.

Bolt replied: "Just because I would like to beat him. Because these young cats feel like they're ready. Every day I'll be like why did I retire so early?"

Bolt and Lyles have clashed in the past. Earlier this year, Lyles was asked to name the most 'complete' 100m sprinter, and he picked Powell ahead of Bolt.

The Jamaican has also been dismissive of the American.

In a recent interview with The Times, Bolt was asked why modern sprinters have been able to challenge his world records.

He argued that sprinters from generation were "just more talented," despite the improvements in shoe technology that many believe give modern athletes an advantage.

On the track, Lyles has done his best to back up his words.

At the recent 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, he took bronze in the 100m, before winning his preferred 200m event.

He then anchored a strong American quartet to victory in 4x100m relay.

After the race, he could not resist another sly dig at Bolt, as he spoke of his aim to become the first man to win five 200m world championships in 2027.

Lyles has also spoken openly about his desire to break Bolt's 19.19 second 200m world record next year.

Although his winning time in Tokyo was 19.52 seconds, he has gone faster in the past, clocking 19.31 in 2022.

And with no major athletics championships next year, Lyles believes it is the perfect opportunity to challenge Bolt's mark.
