A fan has launched a petition calling on ITV to revive the iconic "truly inspirational family TV" show Gladiators for a new audience.
The sports entertainment show became essential viewing for almost every household in the UK during the 1990s until it ended in 2000.

Hosted by Ulrika Jonsson and initially John Fashanu (Jeremy Guscott later presenting in 1997-98), two female and two male contestants would compete in various physical contests against the 'Gladiators.'
And the contestants would eventually compete in one final event at the end of each episode, vying for a place in the grand final to compete for the championship title in that series.
All of this entertainment was brought to fans by the voice of John Sachs, as well as John Anderson officiating contests on Gladiators.

Claire Cordell created the fan-made petition on 38 Degrees and pointed to the "female Gladiators [who] were strong and athletic whilst still retaining their beautiful femininity."
The 38 Degrees user explained: "As a teenager, 'The Gladiators' was truly inspirational family TV.

"Watching it every week kick-started my journey into the world of health and fitness at just 16 [years] old. I wanted to be a Gladiator!
"The female Gladiators were strong and athletic whilst still retaining their beautiful femininity, something I feel is seriously lacking in today's society.
"I'm talking about the women in particular solely because I am a woman, the men were awesome too!
"With obesity, eating disorders and general health issues due to poor nutrition and lack of activity on the rise, I feel we need more role models in the public eye to inspire teenagers to take control of their health and fitness, and not succumb to a life of facial fillers and liposuction.

"[...] So PLEASE, let's try to bring back 'The Gladiators' or something equally as awesome, something for the whole family to watch and give children as well as adults a level of health/fitness to aspire to!
"Please sign this petition, we can but try!"
Gladiators was revived on Sky One in 2008 and even saw the return of Anderson for the first series.
But the TV show fell short of capturing the magic of the ITV fan-favourite Gladiators and was cancelled in May 2009.

But nobody will ever forget the memorable Gladiators likes Jet, Cobra, Wolf, Lightning, Panther and Hunter.
