'F**k this guy... that's a thick boy': Aussie hero gives all-time interview after gold

Matthew Denny secured his first gold but it wasn’t as much his achievement as it was the post-throw antics that had everyone in stitches.

Cult hero Matthew Denny secured his place in the hearts of all Aussies after securing a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

However, it wasn’t as much his achievement as it was the post-throw antics that had everyone in stitches.

The Aussie discuss thrower was in fine form in the finals obliterating his rivals with all six of his throws, setting two new personal bests in the process.

In fact, any of his throws would have secured him first-place status as he blew his competition out of the water.

It was a mammoth effort from the 25-year-old who grew up in the small Queensland town of Allora.

The Aussie looked ecstatic as he celebrated his first ever gold medal, beating out mate and England’s Lawrence Okoye and Jamaica’s Traves Smikle.

His 67.26-metre bomb couldn’t be reached by some way.

Despite emerging victorious over his English counterpart, it was all love between Denny and Okoye as the pair had a hilarious moment that will live on in the hearts of Aussies.

Denny was being interviewed by Channel 7’s Jason Richardson when the Englishman ran over to interrupt.

Okoye jokingly yelled into the microphone: “F**k this guy, Matt Denny. Matt Denny.”

The Australian replied: “You think I’m big, look at this dude. That’s a thick boy.”

You love to see it.

With adrenaline pumping through his veins the Aussie legend also put his running shoes on to do a victory lap around the track to the delight of onlookers.

Although he later admitted he needed some work on his sprinting.

He said: “I have never run a 300 so fast, even though I got a bit gassed on the last bend.

“I’ll have to learn to kick at the end for next time.”

He added: “I am over the moon, it’s been great. I thought I had 68m there but coulda, woulda, shoulda, I threw it pretty high on that last one but I was over the moon I replicated on that last one even though you could have gone and packed it in.”

“But I wanted to make that statement again and finish off that series. This is my first senior title other than world unis, you live for these moments.”

His first gold medal achievement will ease the pain of falling just 5cm short of earning a medal at the Tokyo Olympics last year where he finished fourth.
