Former Olympic champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs has become the second-fastest man in history over 100 metres across all conditions, running a time of 9.67 seconds at the Raiffeisen Austrian Open.
Jacobs' time is slower than only that of Usain Bolt, whose record of 9.58 seconds has stood since 2012.
Unfortunately for the Italian, his time will not be counted amongst the record books as it was recorded in a tailwind of +4.1m/s, which is far beyond the +2.0m/s legal limit.
It does, though, beat the time of 9.68 seconds set by Tyson Gay at the 2008 US Olympic Trials - in the exact same tailwind.

Gay was rated as a key contender to win 100m Olympic gold at Beijing that year, but suffered a hamstring injury prior to the Games and failed to make it past the semi-finals.
As for Jacobs, the Italian did win Olympic gold in Tokyo in 2021, though didn't ever look like going back-to-back in Paris three years later.
Still only 31, however, Jacobs has bounced back in a big way this week and will now have renewed optimism, despite the wind conditions, that he can mount another push towards the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.

In Paris, Jacobs managed to set a season's best time of 9.92 seconds to qualify for the final as one of two non-automatic qualifiers.
But he limped out of the final after suffering from cramps, meaning he was unable to win another Olympic title or make the podium.
Jacobs reacts to storming 100m run
Speaking after his 9.67 run in Austria, Jacobs told reporters: "I'm very happy because I'm improving with every race.
"Of course, it was very windy here, but only Bolt in history has managed to beat this time, and I'm really happy to have achieved such a time."
What are the fastest wind-assisted 100m times?
Jacobs now slots into third place in the list of all-time fastest 100-metre times, with Usain Bolt (9.58 and 9.63) the only athlete ahead of him.
As mentioned above, Jacobs' time is 0.01 seconds faster than that of Tyson Gay as the quickest wind-assisted time in the history of 100m.
