AFL star sends out heartbreaking tribute after mother is killed in tragic boating accident

Rhett Bazzo's mother Kylie Bazzo was one of two killed in the accident.

AFL player Rhett Bazzo has sent out a heartbreaking tribute to his late mother after she was tragically killed in a boating accident.

Kylie Bazzo passed away after a boat she was riding in with friends crashed into a pylon on Saturday (January 21) night.

She was one of two killed in the incident.

The West Coast defender took to Instagram to share a series of photos of his mother and express his grief.

He wrote: “My beautiful mother. Words cannot explain the feeling of not having you around anymore.

“Forever grateful for the unconditional love you’ve always shown us.

“Thank you for choosing me.

“You’re now reunited with your eternal soulmate.

“RIP Mum.”

The footballer also lost his father Steve, a former WAFL great, when Bazzo was just 12 years old.

The player is taking a break from training with his side with the West Coast side supporting Bazzo and his family during this time.

Eagles coach Adam Simpson told the media: “It’s a tragedy. It’s come as quite a shock to Rhett and his family. They’re dealing with that grief and the moment and the club is supporting them.

Adding: “We will give him as much time as he needs. Football is not his priority at the moment.”

The 19-year-old’s teammates sent out messages of support in Bazzo’s comment section.

Housemate Campbell Chesser wrote: “Love ya.”

Brady Hough said: “Thinking of you brother.”

Kylie Bazzo’s body was found almost 24 hours following the collision in the waters near Creery Island.

Her friend Deborah Burdon also died after attempts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful.

John Burdon and Mick Young, the two other passengers on the boat, survived the crash.

An investigation into the incident is currently underway. No charges have been laid.
