Chelsea continue on the road this weekend as they switch from European action to domestic. They travel to the south coast to the Amex Stadium to face Brighton in the Premier League.

Potter is heading back to his former club on Saturday after swapping Brighton for Chelsea in September following the dismissal of Thomas Tuchel.

The 47-year-old has made the perfect start to life at Stamford Bridge, winning six of his opening nine games and drawing the other three.

After their 2-1 win over RB Salzburg in the Champions League on Tuesday night, Potter became the second Englishman to go undefeated in his first nine games as Chelsea manager in all competitions after William Lewis in 1906/07.

Chelsea's busy schedule is well underway ahead of the World Cup and the Brighton test will be their fifth last prior to the break in mid November.

Here's what the Chelsea head coach had to say on Friday afternoon in his pre-match press conference:

Team news

"Pretty much the same as we were against Salzburg. Mateo had a problem with his calf but it was just more fatigue. Koulibaly, game comes too soon, outside chance for Wednesday but not for tomorrow.”

Returning to Brighton

“A place where I spent three happy years there. Looking forward to going back.”

Leaving Brighton for Chelsea

"Timing wasn't great for anybody, but sometimes that happens. Then it's a decision, and a decision to work here was too hard to turn down. What the crowd expects... I don't have any. Most I've spoken to from Brighton have been supportive and thankful but I'm not naive, I know it isn't universal.”

Brighton

"They've been unlucky, performances have been good. They haven't had too much luck from what I've seen. I know the qualities of the team.

"It helps a little bit (knowing them). Roberto has been there a few weeks now, you can see the differences. Whilst I know the players well, it's a new manager and new ideas.

"Great bunch of lads, top staff, I enjoyed my time there. It's going to be very difficult tomorrow."

Most pressure to win - Brighton or Chelsea

"We all want to win the game. We play to win. The difference is luck. We've won our games, picked up points with some luck. Brighton haven't had much luck. Both want to win, it's going to be a good game."

Always remaining calm

"I'm not always. I've had my moments. I always say, you have to be yourself, however you want to conduct yourself... you have to be authentic to you, helpful for you or the team.

"Getting angry is easy, it's whether you can be angry at the right time or person. I'm not perfect. Just because you're animated or calm doesn't mean anything. Sometimes it helps (being angry), of course."

Raheem Sterling concerns

"No (not concerned). Raheem's quality speaks for itself. It's across the team we have to do better."

Becoming first Chelsea English manager to go first 10 games unbeaten if they avoid defeat to Brighton

"I didn't know, it's nice but it's not something I'm too focused on. I just want to prepare the team, play well and try to win the game against Brighton, which will be tough enough. Focus is on the game.”

Appointment of Laurence Stewart

“Positive, good news. I’ve been focusing on the eight games in October. The club are responsible for the appointment. I’m looking forward to working with him and supporting the role.”
