Newcastle United Enter Talks With Chelsea Over Loan Deal For Timo Werner Amid RB Leipzig Interest

Newcastle United are in talks with Chelsea over a loan move for Timo Werner amid interest from RB Leipzig.

Newcastle United are in talks with Chelsea over a loan move for Timo Werner, according to reports.

The 26-year-old made the switch to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2020 from RB Leipzig, but it just hasn’t worked out for him.

Werner’s form has been a shadow of his Bundesliga days, seeing him net 23 goals and register 21 assists in 89 appearances for Chelsea since his £47.5 million transfer.

A departure has been speculated this summer as Thomas Tuchel eyes a rebuild of his attack, which has seen the arrival of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City.

Werner failed to really impress during pre-season, despite scoring, and his future is in doubt this summer.

Newcastle United have been linked with the Germany international and, according to the Daily Mirror, they are in advanced negotiations over a potential deal for the forward.

However, neither Newcastle nor Leipzig are willing to match his current £270,000-a-week wages, which will see Werner need to take a pay cut or asking Chelsea to pay a portion of his wages.

Werner’s preferred destination is thought to be to return to Leipzig if possible, with the German side ‘pushing’ to bring him back to the club. He is claimed to be ready to take a 50 per cent pay cut to make a move happen.

He offered an update on his future earlier this month, insisting he could be happy anywhere, saying: "First of all, the most important thing is that I am happy.

"I am happy when I play and score goals. That’s the fact. That’s what I should take care of and the other things will come.

"I could be happy everywhere. It is hard to say (why I've struggled for game time).”

Werner wants a place in the Germany team for the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel told the forward how he can stake a claim in the team and hasn’t been told by Werner that he wants to leave

Tuchel added: “Show quality, take your place and defend your place.

"I would be one of the happiest people on the planet having a contract with Chelsea.

“I don’t think so, I don’t know about it (Werner wanting to leave).

“Timo has not talked to me about it, so in the moment I think he wants to make his way at Chelsea. He still has a point to prove.
