Timo Werner Eyes Chelsea Exit As Thomas Tuchel Makes Attacking Admission

The German could leave Chelsea this summer.

Timo Werner is eyeing an exit from Chelsea this summer amid Thomas Tuchel’s recent bold admission over his attacking options at the club.

The German faces an uncertain future at the Blues, having failed to bring his Bundesliga form to the Premier League since he signed from RB Leipzig two years ago.

His first campaign in the English top flight saw him make an encouraging 27 goal contributions in all competitions, but his efforts last season fell short of such a number.

Werner is now reportedly looking to leave the club, but it is yet to be seen if the 26-year-old has any potential new suitors.

Before the start of the transfer window he was linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund, but the German outfit did not pursue a deal due to his wages.

Chelsea were also willing to offer him to Juventus as part of a swap deal for Matthijs de Ligt but a transfer failed to materialise, with the Dutchman eventually joining Bayern Munich.

Such news comes amid Blues boss Tuchel’s recent admission on his current attacking options heading into the new season.

Pre-season has been a struggle for them so far, having won just one of their three friendly fixtures during their tour across the United States.

Their most recent game saw them lose 4-0 at the hands of London rivals Arsenal, and they have now returned to the UK having scored just three goals in as many games.

Tuchel made his feelings known about the performance after the match, and raised concerns over the quality of the players he has at his disposal as the new season approaches.

“If you look at the first half, it was even hard to escape our half in a productive way and to play in the opponent’s half in a positive way and create chances – we had one chance with a shot (that hit the post).

"But the amount of dangerous situations, the amount of one against ones, the amount of accelerations in the second half, where we dominated the game and were the better team in the first 22 minutes, but with their first action they score and we didn't have too many dangerous situations (after that).

"Listen, it's the same players, so why should anything change? We will see hopefully development but at the moment, we have the same issues because we have the same players."

Werner recently raised questions over his future at Stamford Bridge, stating that he needs more minutes on the pitch if he is to be part of the Germany squad for the World Cup later this year.

He admitted: “It is hard to say (if clear the air talks are needed). First of all, the most important thing is that I am happy. I am happy when I play and score goals. That’s the fact. That’s what I should take care of and the other things will come.

"I could be happy everywhere. It is hard to say (why I've struggled for game time). I didn’t ask but I think of course the manager always has different ideas, different thoughts and what you need in different games, I think in many games I was not in his thoughts so I try to change that.

"It is clear I want to play more and I should play more to first be in good shape for the World Cup and also, to have a chance to play at the World Cup. I think it doesn’t change anything whether it is a winter World Cup or in the summer.

"I think if I play half of the season or the whole season, I should play. It’s not different to last season. I think it was the same when Romelu (Lukaku) came here that we have big, big competition up front. It is still the same.

"At a big club like Chelsea you have that competition. In pre-season you can show that you want to play that you are a guy who wants to be in the starting XI. That’s what I try."
