Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang labels Reece James 'best in the world' after special AC Milan win

Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang believes right wing-back Reece James is the best in the world following their Champions League win against AC Milan.

The Blues won 3-0 at Stamford Bridge against the reigning Serie A Champions, who were unbeaten in Group E prior to the match.

Aubameyang scored his second goal in as many games for his new side, following his impressive strike away at Crystal Palace at the weekend.

This time round, he netted from close range following James’ delivery into the box.

Speaking to Hayters, the 33-year-old commented on the Blues’ overall performance, a much needed win given their form in the competition prior to Wednesday’s clash.

“It was really special, we had a great night, we played very well so we are happy,” he said.

“We needed a reaction and we did it. With our fans, we did amazing, we were dominant. We are happy to get those three points.

“Yes, really important (getting a clean sheet). The guys were amazing tonight, everyone was winning duels. It was not easy because they have great strikers. They did an amazing job.”

He also praised his teammate James, who was in fine form against Milan on the night.

The 22-year-old assisted the Gabonese striker for Chelsea’s second, before getting himself onto the scoresheet just moments later with a powerful strike into the roof of the net.

Aubameyang added: “For me, he’s the best in the world at the moment.

“He’s doing an amazing job. You could see today, a goal and assist, he’s on top form.”

Chelsea boss Graham Potter, who took charge of his third game for the side since his arrival from Brighton and Hove Albion, was also complimentary of the right wing-back.

The head coach revealed what he thinks James’ potential is when he said: “For us, we love him. He's so important for us.

“My job is to help him reach his potential, and his potential is he can be a Chelsea legend with anybody. That is the level he has, the potential that he has.

“For that to happen, he has to be part of a successful team. That's what we're working towards.”

Chelsea will face Milan once again in five days time, with the two sides set to face each other at the San Siro on matchday four of the Champions League group stages.

The Blues are now second in Group E following their win on Wednesday, with FC Salzburg sitting top as it stands.
