Lazio Showing Interest In Chelsea Duo This Summer

Lazio are showing interest in Chelsea duo Emerson and Ruben Loftus-Cheek this summer, according to reports.

Emerson is set to return to the Blues in the coming weeks after his loan spell at Lyon in Ligue 1, where he made 36 appearances for the French side.

Meanwhile, Loftus-Cheek featured in his seventh season for the senior team at Chelsea in the previous campaign, playing an important role in Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

Both players worked under Maurizio Sarri during the 2018/19 season, with the Italian boss now heading into his second year in charge at Lazio.

With the transfer window now in full swing, Sarri could look towards signing a duo from his former side ahead of the new campaign.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Lazio are interested in bringing Emerson and Loftus-Cheek to the club this summer.

The latter had a superb year under Sarri three seasons ago, with the midfielder netting ten goals and assisting five others in 40 games.

It would prove to be his breakthrough term at Chelsea but he suffered a serious injury at the end of the campaign, and therefore featured very little in the 2019/20 season.

Emerson also impressed under the Italian boss, featuring 27 times for the Blues in all competitions at left-back, scoring one and assisting two.

Both could make the switch to the Serie A side this summer, especially if Sergej Milinkovic-Savic was to leave in the coming weeks.

The Serbian international is said to be the subject of interest of three Premier League clubs, with Arsenal and Newcastle United joining Chelsea in a pursuit of the central midfielder.

His agent Mateja Kezman, who used to play for the Blues and was part of the 2004/05 title winning squad, is ‘actively seeking a new club for his client’ during the summer window.

Sarri is keen to try and keep him at Lazio for the new season, with none of the aforementioned English sides yet to be prepared to meet the asking price of around £52 million.

With Chelsea keen to compete against the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League title next season, they will be looking to add some new additions to the squad during the transfer window.

While fresh faces may be making their way through the doors at the World Champions, Romelu Lukaku could leave after just one season back at the club, with Chelsea and Inter Milan set to hold further talks over the Belgian's possible return to the San Siro.
