Mendy, Cucurella, Kante: Latest Chelsea team news for Crystal Palace clash as Potter handle quadruple blow

Mendy, Cucurella, Kante: Latest Chelsea team news for Crystal Palace clash as Potter handle quadruple blow

The latest team news is in as Chelsea face Crystal Palace.

The latest team news is in as Chelsea face Crystal Palace in Graham Potter's first Premier League match as head coach.

Potter took over from Thomas Tuchel earlier last month and it has been 23 days between his appointment and Premier League debut as head coach.

The Blues faced FC Salzburg in this period, resulting in a 1-1 draw in Potter's first match.

Chelsea will be looking to push on and improved from this when they face Crystal Palace on Saturday as Potter seeks his first win over the Eagles in his career.

Playing against Brighton's rivals seven times during his time on the south coast, Potter never came out ontop against the south London side.

The 47-year-old will be without N'Golo Kante and Edouard Mendy, however, as Chelsea look to come away from Selhurst Park with three points.

Speaking to the press on Friday, Potter revealed the latest team news.

With Kante and Mendy expected to return to action next week, there was another blow for the Blues as Marc Cucurella looks likely to miss the London derby.

Carney Chukwuemeka is also out of the clash as Chelsea are lacking in midfield options.

When asked for an update on his squad, Potter said: "N'Golo is fine in terms of coming through the rehab stages. He has been on the grass with the team but not in full training.

"We have a bit of illness with Marc Cucurella and also Carney Chukwuemeka, but apart from that everyone is fit.”

Continuing to discuss Mendy's selection chances, Potter ruled him out of Saturday's clash but revealed that he will be back at a similar time to Kante.

"Edou is a bit further on, but hasn’t had enough to be involved at the weekend," he said.

"Maybe next week for him."

This leaves Kepa Arrizabalaga as the main option in the goalkeeping department, having played the last two matches in Mendy's absence.

In midfield, Mason Mount could be used deeper as he was against FC Salzburg with Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic.

Ben Chilwell, Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana are among the options to replace Cucurella depending on the system Potter decides to deploy.

Chelsea will be hoping to bring three points back to Stamford Bridge before facing AC Milan at home in the week.

The games come thick and fast for Potter, with no less than 13 to be played in October before the 2022 World Cup begins next month.
