Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign three players from Barcelona following transfer talks between the clubs, according to reports.
Gabriel Slonina has also been acquired from Chicago Fire but he won’t link up with the Blues until January 2023 due to returning to America to see out the current MLS season.
A deal to bring Marc Cucurella from Brighton to Chelsea is nearing, but there have been several links to players from Barcelona.
Frenkie de Jong has been heavily linked amid interest from Manchester United, with his preference to stay in Spain.
It was claimed by Matt Law that Chelsea had ‘some interest’ in Aubameyang, and that the player would be open to moving to Stamford Bridge and returning to the Premier League.
It's right that there is some interest from Chelsea in Aubameyang (the mystery forward I alluded to on London Is Blue) but no more than that at this stage. I understand Aubameyang would be interested in Chelsea too. Now for my day off #cfc— Matt Law (@Matt_Law_DT) August 4, 2022
Fabrizio Romano reported that talks had been held with Barcelona, but that no bid had been submitted to Barcelona.
Now Nizaar Kinsella of the Evening Standard reports that Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign De Jong and Aubameyang this summer, as well as Memphis Depay.
No decision has been made by Chelsea if they will make a move for any of the three players, but talks have taken place over De Jong.
Barcelona want Chelsea duo Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso, but Azpilicueta is wanted by Boehly and co to remain at the club for an extra year due to his experience and leadership, as reported by The Times.
Joan Laporta, Barcelona’s president, met with Todd Boehly, chairman and co-owner of Chelsea, in Barcelona last month for a meeting.
He recently spoke to CBS Sports about their pursuits of Alonso and Azpilicueta, as well as Boehly and his arrival at Chelsea.
“We had a very nice dinner in Barcelona and we talked in general about football,” admitted Laporta.
“He is a very successful businessman. He is involved in sport with the Lakers and Dodgers and now with Chelsea. He looks like a man who knows what he wants to do and it was a very nice dinner.
“They (Azpilicueta and Alonso) are under contract at Chelsea and we respect this as well as the new owner. I don't want to talk about players who belong to other teams.
“I respect Cesar and Marcos as footballers. They are very, very good players. They show their quality and talent at Chelsea. But I don't want to talk about them as a matter of respect for Chelsea.”
There is still four weeks to go until the transfer window and Chelsea are getting on with their business after a delayed and frustrating start.
How many they will sign remains unclear, but it’s clear to see they are planning and investing for both the now and the future.
