The upcoming Rio Olympics are rife with controversy and they're still a month away from commencing. Between political scandal, recession, rising crime, emergency service demonstrations and the Zika virus, Brazil has spiralled into turmoil and now is having to deal with the horror of mutilated body parts washing up on Copacabana Beach, only metres away from where the Olympic volleyball will be taking place.

The games, which begin on the 5th August, were originally expected to be a landmark event for South America as they will be the first Olympics to be held on the continent, however, Brazil has endured a series of almost cataclysmic political and economic crises over the past couple of years which have brought the country to it's knees.

The state of Rio de Janeiro is currently awaiting emergency funding of 2.9bn reais ($892m) to ensure financing for public services, with police and firemen demonstrating at Rio's international airport, protesting their missed wages and greeting arriving passengers with a sign reading "Welcome to Hell", earlier this week.

There is no confirmation from Rio police as to what has caused the body to wash up on the Copacabana, after its existence was confirmed to Reuters.
