Wrexham eye free transfer for ex-Championship star, they aren't slowing down

Wrexham eye free transfer for ex-Championship star, they aren't slowing down

Wrexham are planning for their return to the English Football League

Wrexham are reportedly eyeing a move for a former Championship star ahead of their return to the English Football League.

Backed by their Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Wrexham secured their passage to League Two after a 3-1 victory against Boreham Wood in April.

On the back of their historic feat, Reynolds and McElhenney treated the Wrexham squad to a celebratory trip to Las Vegas.

As the club prepare for their return to League Two, they have been linked with a host of names including the likes of Gareth Bale, Jonny Williams and Hal Robson Kanu.

However, according to the Daily Record, Wrexham are targetting a move for former Middlesbrough striker Curtis Main.

The 30-year-old currently plays for Scottish Premiership side St Mirren and scored nine goals in 39 matches during the 22/23 season.

Main’s contract with the Scottish club is due to expire at the end of the month and Wrexham are hoping to secure a free transfer.

However, it is believed that Wrexham will face competition from the Indian Super League for Main’s signature.

According to Daily Express Sport, St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson stated that Main is likely to leave the club.

He said: “Curtis is very unlikely to stay. When you are getting double and triple your money offers in England's League One and Two then you need to just admit that you are not going to get there. Curtis has been absolutely excellent for me, he’s been terrific every time he has played and he’s earned the right for possibly one more big move.

“Even on Saturday he was playing with an injection in his foot and he’s given absolutely everything. That’s the kind of quality people we have inside this building and I wish him nothing but the best if he moves on.”

Wrexham will be back in action in August as League Two gets underway.
