Amongst the kind of £89 million deal that takes Paul Pogba to Manchester United any summer transfer window also has some bargains and this summer Real Madrid defender Pepe could be the best value around, at zero cost!

The big transfer deals are always fun to find being announced, especially as these days we have to work out if it's a transfer record or not based on the exchange rate to the Euro.

But the problem with these big deals is they take absolutely bloody ages, potential moves for Antoine Griezmann and Eden Hazard seem to have already started and won't finish for months.

Bargain deals on the other hand seem to be over much quicker and there's nothing more satisfactory than getting a deal over the lines, especially for Jim White who reportedly orgasms at every deal confirmation.

The summer is particularly good for bargains, mainly speaking free transfers. This summer Real Madrid's Pepe is one such player up for grabs as his contract at the Bernabeu expires.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca the Portuguese centre back is choosing between Manchester City and PSG as his next club.

The 34 year old has decided against signing with Los Blancos as they only offered him a one year deal instead of the two years he wanted.

When that transpired it was believed that he would be moving to the Chinese Super League, with Hebei Fortune offering the former Porto defender 12 million euros net a season.

However according to the report in Spain the chance of missing out on the Portugal squad for the 2018 World Cup squad made him decide to stay in Europe.

Pep Guardiola has spent all season trying to find a partner for John Stones and has failed to replace constantly injured captain Vincent Kompany.

The lure of a Champions League winning centre back on a free deal could be one that tempts City to really push for a move for him.

PSG will be looking to add more Champions League pedigree to their side after the collapse against Barcelona that saw them knocked out after a 4-0 first leg win.

Whoever does sign Pepe will be getting a winner for free, a real bargain!
