According to reports via ESPN, Leicester City have tabled a £27 million bid for Townsend. He's been attracting interest from the Foxes with the club following up their initial interest with an offer.

Stoke City's Mark Hughes has also expressed a desire to sign Townsend, though, unlike Leicester, they've yet to put forward an offer.

It appears Townsend's potential arrival could spell the end for Riyad Mahrez. The Algerian international continues to dominate the transfer rumour mills with a move to AS Roma in the works.

The Serie A outfit have had a few official offers rejected but a move away from the King Power remains on the cards. Despite the uncertainty, Craig Shakespeare has praised the former Players' Player of the Year for his professional approach.

Mahrez starred for Claudio Ranieri's side in the 2015/16 campaign as he produced heroics on the flanks which saw Leicester produce a Premier League title winning run.

Though the 26-year-old has failed to replicate his lofty form with his days at the club numbered. Yet Townsend still has big shoes to fill.

After breaking through at Spurs, Townsend subsequently left White Hart Lane for Newcastle before joining Palace.

He's now set to join his fourth permanent top flight club.
