Benjamin Mendy to Manchester City is on, with the Blues taking a major step towards securing the signing of the Monaco left-back.

The former Marseille man has been on City's radar ever since impressing in Monaco's Champions League round of 16 two leg aggregate win over Pep Guardiola's side, but Monaco have proved typically difficult to negotiate with and knocked back three improved bids from the two-time Premier League winners.

As the deal has dragged on, Mendy has been regularly teasing Manchester City fans on social media, and the City faithful will now be glad to hear that French outlet L'Equipe are reporting that a fourth bid has been accepted by Monaco, with the two parties agreeing a €57.5 million (£51.6 million) fee for the services of Mendy, which would make him the most expensive defender in football history - overtaking fellow summer signing Kyle Walker.

The talk is that like with Real Madrid right-back Danilo, the deal be wrapped up imminently and Mendy could be in Los Angeles with his new City teammates by Monday.

The 23-year old's best friend Diacko Fofana has appeared to confirm Mendy's move to City on his Instagram story, and it will be a welcome addition for City supporters.

City have been desperate for full-backs after Pablo Zabaleta, Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna were all released, and now with Aleksandar Kolarov on his way to Roma, the club have moved swiftly in getting the Mendy deal over the line after a drawn-out saga.

Mendy will become City's fifth summer signing following the arrivals of his Monaco teammate Bernardo Silva, Benfica goalkeeper Ederson, Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz and Tottenham right-back Kyle Walker.

Thoughts on Mendy? Is he the best available option for the left-back berth at City?

Sound off in the comments.
