Tottenham set to seal second key January signing after major U-turn as selling club identify replacement

Tottenham set to seal second key January signing after major U-turn as selling club identify replacement

Tottenham are set to complete a January signing.

Tottenham have reached an agreement with Sporting Lisbon to sign wing-back Pedro Porro, according to reports, with the Portuguese club lining up his replacement.

Porro has been a key target for Antonio Conte's side this window, but the deal has been subject to drawn-out negotiations.

Sporting originally told Spurs that they wanted Porro's release clause, believed to be £40 million, paid in full, but the north London club were said to initially be reluctant to do so before talks progressed.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Saturday that the two clubs had reached a 'full verbal agreement' over the transfer, prior to Spurs' FA Cup win over Preston North End.

But the deal looked to be off as of Monday afternoon, which The Athletic claimed was due to a Sporting U-turn, with the club changing the terms of the proposal.

Thankfully for Spurs, however, the deal looks to be firmly back on.

Pedro Porro 'set for Tottenham'

Romano has reported that Porro will arrive in London for medical tests on Tuesday that were originally scheduled to take place today.

He adds that the two clubs agreed to a €45 million deal, and Spurs look set to complete a move that appeared to be off earlier today.

In addition, Sporting have lined up former Arsenal star Hector Bellerin as the Spaniard's replacement, with the defender set to leave Barcelona.

The move will mark a return to the Premier League for Porro, who departed Manchester City last summer without making a senior appearance for the club. There were reports that there was a buy-back clause inserted in that move.

If the deal is completed, the 23-year-old will become Spurs' second January addition, with Arnaut Danjuma joining the club on loan from Villarreal.

The Netherlands international made his debut against PNE in the FA Cup, scoring Spurs' third goal late on in a 3-0 win to get his time in north London off to a perfect start.
