They'll be hoping they get the deal over the line...

Liverpool are desperate to strike a deal to sign Monaco's Thomas Lemar before Thursday's deadline and his performance against Dijon last season is primary evidence of why the Reds want to bring him to Anfield.

Leonardo Jardim's side won 2-1 in this particular fixture, with goals from Nabar Dirar and Radamel Falcao in the second half enough for the win.

And a montage of Lemar's display at the Stade Louis II has been doing the rounds and it makes for impressive viewing for Liverpool supporters.

Check it out here:

Not too shabby at all, is it? Playing in a central role, one of three positions the 21-year old is capable of being deployed in with distinction, Lemar oozed class on the ball, with his composure, distribution and pass selection there to see. He's an incredible forward-thinking player, always looking to find teammates in behind with slick passes. Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, who were all on the scoresheet in the 4-0 blitzing of Arsenal on Sunday, will surely have even more joy if Lemar signs.

Technically excellent and with a cultured left peg, Lemar also looks incredibly dangerous from dead-ball situations in terms of both crossing and shooting - something Reds fans will welcome with open arms.

The France international was one of the top performers for Leonardo Jardim's side last term, scoring 14 times and registering 17 assists in all competitions.

He was heavily courted by Arsenal, who made three bids for the midfielder but are no longer pursuing a deal after Arsene Wenger conceded a deal was "dead".

Instead, Liverpool are pushing to sign Lemar and reportedly had a £65 million bid knocked back by Monaco, who have already lost Bernardo Silva, Benjamin Mendy and Tiemoue Bakayoko this summer, and are on the verge of losing Kylian Mbappe to PSG.

Last night, Simon Jones from The Mail, claimed that the Reds are still keen on securing Lemar's services and submitted a new £74 million bid, which includes striker Divock Origi heading the Monaco on loan as part of the deal. Origi, who made his name in Ligue One with Lille, has a host of admirers, including Tottenham, but Liverpool do not want to sell him to Premier League rivals.

And, in an update for The Mail,, Jones notes that in order to try and get the deal over the line imminently, Liverpool officials are flying to Monaco. The Principality club announced the £27 million signing of Balde Keita from Lazio yesterday and the Senegal international is widely viewed as a replacement for Lemar.

Should Liverpool be successful in landing Lemar, it will be the second time in a matter of days that the club have broken their transfer record, having agreed a £55 million deal for RB Leipzig's Naby Keita, a top target, to join next summer. The midfielder will take on the No.8 shirt number made iconic by Steven Gerrard.
