'In a heartbeat' - Piers Morgan makes 'ridiculous' plea for Ronaldo to join Arsenal

Piers Morgan claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo would be an ideal January signing for Arsenal - a suggestion that was labelled “ridiculous”.

Piers Morgan claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo would be an ideal January signing for Arsenal - a suggestion that has been labelled “ridiculous”.

Morgan’s bombshell TalkTV interview with Ronaldo, which is due to be aired in full on Wednesday and Thursday evening, has caused a stir across the football world.

The 37-year-old made a series of incendiary comments against former team-mates Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville, while he insisted he does not respect Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.

It is widely thought that Ronaldo will leave Old Trafford in January, but the Portugal star’s options will likely be limited, given the player's massive wages and waning powers.

“Arsenal should sign Ronaldo”

Morgan has claimed that Arsenal should sign Ronaldo to help with the club’s title charge.

The north Londoners currently sit five points clear at the top of the Premier League, but Mikel Arteta’s side will still be hoping to bring in some new faces in January to replenish their thin squad for the run-in.

And Arsenal fan Morgan has suggested that Ronaldo would be a viable option for the Gunners.

Speaking to TalkSPORT he said: "Gabriel Jesus needs a scoring partner next to him, and Jesus’ heat map is so outrageous.

“He [Jesus] covers so much ground, actually what we [Arsenal] need is a fox in the box, a world-class player with bags of experience, who has won everything and to help us get over the line.

"I can think of somebody – Cristiano Ronaldo! I would take him for six months in a heartbeat, and this idea that Ronaldo can’t suddenly play football, I’m sorry, it’s laughable."

Morgan’s plea is “ridiculous”

Former Gunners winger Perry Groves said Morgan’s ‘Ronaldo to Arsenal’ suggestion was “ridiculous”, insisting that the five-time Balon d’Or winner would have a negative impact on Arteta’s squad.

The pundit added that Ronaldo would cause 20 times the trouble Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang brought to the Gunners.

Groves said: “Piers Morgan saying Arsenal should be in for him. Piers, please. I don’t know if you’ve done your coaching badges or how qualified you are…

“It’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. Ronaldo is Aubameyang times 20!

“The philosophy Mikel Arteta has put into these players is no egos, humbleness, you all work hard for the team, it’s about the team, the non-negotiables. Then you go and put the biggest ego on the planet and disrupt all that.”
