Former Real Madrid midfielder Guti has had his say on the Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo debate claiming the Barcelona man is the best of the pair, apart from in one department.

Round and round we go, where it stops nobody knows. That's what it feels like when it comes to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Right now Messi's free kick scoring spree seems to have him back on top but just a few weeks ago Ronaldo's hat-trick against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League saw him crowned champion of football for all eternity.

It seems that no matter what happens we're all forever stuck in a loop of discussing which of the two best players in the world is the best.

In fact the only silver lining when the pair retire is that people will stop talking about it...oh who am I kidding, it's still going to carry on.

Often in the past preference has come down to which team you support with many Real Madrid, and Manchester United fans, preferring Ronaldo and other preferring Messi. Of course some of that Real bias has subsided since the forward's move to Juventus.

Speaking to Marca former Los Blancos midfielder Guti proved that somewhat by saying Messi had more talent. When asked which one was better Guti said:

"Both. It is true that I recently tweeted that I chose Messi, but I value highly what Cristiano has done. He is a great player.

"Messi has more talent, Cristiano is more of a goalscorer, more ambition, he is a self-made player.

"It is incredible that in the era of Messi, he has been able to win five Ballon d'Or. He has been massively important, as he showed at Real Madrid."

Guti was a coach at the Bernabeu as part of the youth academy up until the end of the season. He decided to leave and become assistant manager at Besiktas, where he ended his playing career.

The 42 year old revealed that becoming a manager is his aim, adding, "I already said it when I left Real Madrid. I needed to grow and I want to be the head coach and that is my goal for next season.

"Where? I do not know. I'm happy here, but you never know what's going to happen."

And the five time La Liga winner doesn't shirk from his ambition to manage the team, saying, "For sure. I have always said it. (To be on) the bench of Real Madrid is the maximum, as it was as a player.

"To be there one day would be really significant. I know that I must achieve plenty to be there but it also took a great effort to be there as a player. I am not scared of that. The only thing I want is to have an opportunity to do things well and for my work to be known and to keep growing."

If he's lucky he'll be manager at the Bernabeu after Lionel Messi has hung up his boots and given Real a better chance at domestic glory.
