All Cristiano Ronaldo needed was to make a joke about Lionel Messi and just like that his form and Real Madrid's form returned in devastating fashion as they beat Deportivo 7-1 on Sunday night.
The debate about Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi will never go away. Long after they've retired and no one is on Twitter anymore they'll be people tweeting their opinions about how their 'MCM is better than your MCM,' or some nonsense.
Despite winning the Ballon d'Or in 2017, and levelling things at five all when it comes to the award with his rival, Ronaldo has had a bit of a stinker of a start to the 2017/18 season.

Here's what Cristiano Ronaldo could spend his wages on:
However he got back in the swing of things with a brace against Deportivo on Sunday. Perhaps he took inspiration from sharing a joke about Messi before kick off with a young mascot.
In the tunnel before kick off the kid was seen to say, "For me, you are the best player in the world and Messi..." with the former Manchester United winger interrupting his sentence to finish it, "Is bad," much to the delight of his teammates:
Clearly that joking was the catalyst for a change in fortunes for Los Blancos. They went 1-0 down against Depor and things could have gone downhill from there considering their recent results.

"I'm the best player in history, in the good moments and the bad ones. I respect everyone's preferences, but I've never seen anyone better than me. I have always thought that. No footballer can do the things I can. There's no player more complete than me.
"I play well with both feet, I'm quick, powerful, good with the head, I score goals, I make assists. There are guys who prefer Neymar or (Lionel) Messi. But I tell you: there's no-one more complete than me."
I guess when you're that good you can afford to be arrogant!
