Of all the things that Stoke City have had to be unhappy about recently you wouldn't think that a new signing with European experience would give them much reason to shed a tear, but you'd be wrong.

This season hasn't gone according to plan for Stoke City. It's now their ninth season in the Premier League and previously they've rarely even flirted with the idea of relegation, never mind entered into a proper scrap over it.

However this term they've had to sack Mark Hughes because the Welshman, who has led them to their best Premier League finish, had dragged the club into the hardest battle for survival in the league in a long time.

Paul Lambert came in to steady the ship but despite four points in their last two games Stoke sit just one point above the relegation zone with only Huddersfield and Southampton between them and a bottom three place.

Last night they brought some cheer to the club by signing Senegalese midfielder Badou Ndiaye for £14 million from Super Lig side Galatasaray. Optimism though was replaced with sadness this evening when the new boys number was announced:

The number 27 previously belonged to club favourite Bojan who is currently on loan with Spanish side Alaves and fans weren't happy with the redistributing of his number:

It doesn't look good for Bojan's return right now.

Can Stoke get themselves clear of the relegation zone?
