Rio Ferdinand And Nemanja Vidic Named Premier League's Greatest Defensive Partnership

The Premier League has been blessed with some top-notch attackers.

It's been a pleasure to have seen the likes of Didier Drogba, Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney fire-in some of the best goals ever seen.

But for a lot of football fans, it's been an equal pleasure to watch some of the world's best defenders partner-up against these heavyweight attackers.

Which leads us on to the question: who is the best defensive partnership in Premier League history?

Well, SPORTbible did a poll to find out:

So that settles it with the SPORTbible community. Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand is your best defensive duo in Premier League history.

United fans will remember the post-millennium glory days. These two defenders were a crucial part of it.

Between 2006 and 2013, the pair anchored the Old Trafford defence. During their time together, the won five league titles and a memorable Champions League medal in 2008.

But let's not forget the other partnerships.

Ricardo Carvalho and John Terry were the perfect compliment to each other under Jose Mourinho's Chelsea. Together they hold the record for the fewest goals conceded in a season. In their 2014/15 title-winning year, they only let in 15 goals. Incredible.

Liverpool's £2.6million fee paid for Sami Hyypia in 1999 proved an absolute bargain. He and Jamie Carragher went on to form a solid Premier League pair.

And then of course there were Sol Campbell and Kolo Toure, two formidable defenders in an invincible side.

On this occasion, it's Vidic and Ferdinand who take top-spot. Well deserved but nonetheless, the Premier League has had its fair share of world class defensive partnerships.
